Partnership with PA DEP
ETAC partners with the Pennsylvania
Department of Environmental Protection
(DEP) to help Pennsylvania businesses achieve and maintain environmental
compliance. Through DEP's support, ETAC provides completely confidential
assistance to businesses in a variety of industries.
In September 1998, ETAC received a two-year $800,000 grant from
DEP to help businesses apply technology like infrared,
ultraviolet,
microwave
and radio
frequency energies to improve heating, drying, coating and curing
processes. During the following 2 years, ETAC succeeded in working
with more than 80 companies to reduce an estimated 8,000,000 pounds
of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and 140,000 pounds of particulate
pollution.
In May 2000, ETAC was awarded an additional $3 million grant to
continue assisting businesses in the prevention of air pollution.
By testing and evaluating manufacturing processes, ETAC helps businesses
reduce air pollution and improve their manufacturing processes.
DEP will subsidize 70% of the cost of the support that ETAC provides
to a company. Also, any changes that a company makes with ETAC's
assistance may make them eligible for loans through the Small Business
Pollution Prevention Loan Account. DEP will provide loans of up
to $50,000 for companies with 100 or fewer employees. The loans
carry an interest rate of no more than 2% and have a maximum term
of 7 years.
In addition to DEP, the Pennsylvania Department of Community and
Economic Development's Ben Franklin Technology Partners program,
and various equipment and coating manufacturers provide support
to ETAC.
