What is ETAC?
The Electrotechnology Applications Center (ETAC), located at Northampton
Community College (NCC) in Bethlehem, Pa., helps businesses improve
productivity, increase energy efficiency, and achieve and maintain
environmental compliance by employing new alternative technologies.
Through support from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental
Protection (DEP), ETAC provides confidential assistance to businesses

What services does ETAC offer
its clients?
ETAC helps companies improve their heating, drying, coating and
curing processes. ETAC evaluates clients' current operations and
helps them seek out cleaner, faster and less expensive production

What type of technologies
and equipment does ETAC offer?
ETAC provides laboratories and staff to assist with the following
state-of-the-art energy technologies:
After businesses have used the technologies above, ETAC has the
ability to test their products with accelerated
environmental testing to ensure that they will resist deterioration
caused by exposure to the elements.
These technologies may also be combined, such as in ETAC's combination
gas infrared and convection oven, which reduces the amount of
energy and time necessary for products to reach and maintain a required
temperature.
ETAC also provides the following equipment at its facility:
- Combination gas infrared/convection oven
- Short, medium and long-wave electric infrared ovens
- Microwave drying systems
- Radio frequency drying and processing equipment
- Liquid spray and powder coating booths
- Mass transfer drying system (Optimum Air)
- Low-energy electron beam

ETAC has assisted a variety of businesses, ranging from a nylon
processing plant to a children's furniture manufacturer. The following

How can companies obtain grant
assistance money from the Department of Environmental Protection
(DEP)?
The ETAC DEP grant will pay for 70% of any project with ETAC that
qualifies. Any changes that a company makes due to ETAC's recommendations
may be paid for through loans available through the Small Business
Pollution Prevention Loan account. DEP provides loans of up to $50,000
for companies with 100 or fewer employees. The loans carry an interest
rate of no more than 2% and have a maximum term of 7 years.
